New EPP Template!

I am starting a new EPP project!

I have a Tupperware container of 2" square civil war style fabric scraps that I want to work with.

So I designed a tumbler template for them!
You can download the template PDF here: My Download Website
I can't believe how tiny these are! I am just going to start and decide later if this will be a quilt center, table runner or cushion cover. I've never worked with templates this small so I might hate it who knows! LOL.
The resulting tumblers are super cute though!
Stay tuned to see how it goes!

Destructive Dog - time to recover some dog beds!

Molly our Westipoo is 15 months old and still hasn't outgrown her destructive phase! She's ruined so many dog beds already. This one we've only had about 6 weeks. She chewed the cover off it entirely and has continued to take out chunks of foam.
She loves zippers and straps/ties, so I couldn't use them when recovering because that would just encourage her! So I had to come up with another option for recovering dog beds. First I grabbed my bread knife and shortened that bit of foam to remove the holey piece leaving a piece about 25" square.

Then I improvised a huge Aussie pillowcase with a fairly long housewives flap (I have a tutorial for making these French seam pillowcases - click on my tutorials tab) and just popped the foam inside.
Once completed I tossed it out into the hallway and got on with more sewing, Henry our 14 year old Spoodle appreciated my efforts straight away!
I used a lovely Moda flannel from my stash!
So I decided to do another one. I bought a new dog bed the same, removed the brand new cover because it has a zip (perhaps it'll be handy when she's older?). Then I made a big pillowcase cover for it too:
It is a relatively quick way of making a cover so I won't be too devastated if she destroys these too.
She gave it her tick of approval!
That fabric was only about $3 a yard from a Hobby Lobby clearance table a few years ago so the cover probably cost less than $9 to make.
Then I hemmed six 1 yard cuts of flannel for dog blankets as it is almost winter here and dog blankets never go to waste around here in chilly weather.
So that bit of dog sewing kept me busy for a few hours!

EPP Quilt Top Finish!

I finished my hand pieced hexagon scrap quilt!

I love this finish!
1172 hexagons!
I can't wait to get it quilted and bound! But that won't be for a few weeks.
Soo many seams! I love the back more than the front because you can see how much work went into it!
The printable hexagon template PDF is available from my download website - link in left sidebar.

EPP Border Progress

I only have 4 hexagons left to add to my final border!
I can't wait to stitch this border on and finish my first ever EPP quilt top!
The dogs of course wanted some attention whilst I was photographing the border!
Henry the Spoodle (black) and Molly the Westipoo (light apricot)

Free EPP Templates

I'm almost finished my first ever EPP quilt!

So I thought it was time to share my hexagon template

It's now free to download from my website!

I am just using precut scraps for EPP, so this hexagon size was designed especially for use with 3" scrappy squares.

That's right, you don't need to cut them into hexagons! Just go ahead and use the squares. The excess would end up in the scrap bin usually but this way it's included in the quilt adding extra warmth.
Go download the PDF, print on card stock and you'll have 16 hexagons ready for cutting around whilst watching TV or whatever else you like to do whilst slow stitching.
